Operations Assistant

Shelby Electric Cooperative (SEC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Operations Assistant. Shelby Electric Cooperative is headquartered in Central Illinois with 2,196 miles of line and approximately 9,988 meters. We are located near beautiful Lake Shelbyville - an 11,100 acre lake with 172 miles of shoreline, with easy access to beaches, The General Dacey Trail, the Kaskaskia River and many outdoor activities. The community offers great schools, shopping in our historic downtown district, and has seen tremendous growth in recent years.

This position is 40 hours per week with the potential for occasional overtime. Normal operating hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 4 pm.

This position is one of the first points of contact with our members. It is imperative that this person be able to provide prompt, courteous, friendly service to our member-owners and visitors.

Minimum qualifications:

1. Must have a high school diploma, GED certificate or equivalent.

2. Must be able to handle confidential information.

3. Must exhibit proficiency and working knowledge of personal computer system.

4. Must travel to attend functions/conferences relevant to this position.

5. Must have the ability to work efficiently, in an organized manner, with minimal supervision in a high stress environment.

6. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as good reasoning abilities.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Generate service orders as required for disconnects, reconnects, and repairs.

2. Close out completed miscellaneous service orders and forward the others to the appropriate departments.

3. Issue disconnects on member service accounts identified by billing which are not meeting an approved extended payment schedule for balance due on electric services.

4. Required to help in the office during extensive power outages.

5. Collect and verify information on line personnel time sheets and mileage sheets.

6. Maintain the daily schedule of appointments and production schedule.

7. Render prompt, efficient and courteous telephone answering service of incoming calls, places calls to members or others and relays messages as required.

8. Answers inquiries from members and employees concerning work in progress for the department.

9. Maintain necessary logs of radio and telephone conversations.

10. Prepare "on-call" sheets.

11. Assist with collections.

12. Use automated meter reading system to read meters, connect and disconnect members.

13. Perform dispatch duties during outages.

14. Participate in safety meetings and training programs as required.

15. Attend and participate in annual meeting as required.

16. Assist member-owners with billing and service requests when necessary.

17. Distribute work orders received from construction crews and servicemen.
